Two Days in a Row!
Ayy, consistency is starting to kick in! Two days in a row feels good, but I know I’ve got to pick up the pace. There’s still a long way to go before the end of the month, and I’ve got big plans.
One idea I’m toying with is creating a new game mode where players don’t have to be online at all times. This would give the game more flexibility and appeal to a wider audience. Combined with the bug fixes I need to tackle, it’s clear I’ve got a lot on my plate—especially when it comes to art assets. Time to get those out ASAP.
Today’s Progress: Rough Sprites
I spent the day working on some rough sprites for the game. These are chess pieces, along with a color scheme I’ve decided on. It’s just a rough draft for now, but it seems like it’ll get the job done for the moment.

Potential Issue: Legibility
One concern I have is that the shapes of the pieces might lack legibility—they may not be immediately distinguishable during gameplay. Their long shapes also make it hard to distinguish one from another. Outlines might be necessary as well. I’ll need to see how this works when I implement them into the game. Fingers crossed that they’re clear enough, but if not, it might require some tweaking.
Reflections
Honestly, creating these sprites took a lot longer than I’d hoped, and they’re still not at the polished level I’d like. I might revisit them later or even seek help from an illustrator to refine them. For now, I’ll let them sit as placeholders and focus on getting other parts of the game moving.
I’ll keep pushing forward—there’s no time to waste. See you in the next update! 👋
