Basic Modelling in Houdini

Ok, so Houdini is basically 3d modelling but math

I’ve continued with the lectures today, and I’ve done a little bit of modelling here and there. It’s not much but it’s something

Anyways. I’ve done some basic modelling like an oil barrel, spider web and some organic… sphere… torus stuff. It’s really interesting how I have to now think about what nodes to use instead of what faces to extrude, what loop cuts to make…etc. Modifiers and whatnot exist in blender and maya, but now we’re only working with modifiers and its fun at least for now.

So oil barrel was quite easy. Touched on the basics of material while at it. Didn’t really go into UV editing or mapping, and I’m not even sure if Houdini has it…? Did some uv projections and sectioning tho so that was nice.

then the spline spiderweb stuff. Simple stuff, a lot of geometry nodes and math stuff. All fun and games tho.

Then this organic sphere torus thingy. Which uses a lot of different nodes, some I understand, while some I have no idea what i’m doing. I’ll have to look into what VOP even stands for. Other than the VOP it was understandable, but not quite used to the calculations yet. I’ll have to go through it sometime, but I’ll continue on with the lecture for now, which leads to fire and smoke stuff, or “what people use Houdini for”.
